Scott Bass, Esq.
Scott Bass heads the firm’s Global Life Sciences team, coordinating pharmaceutical, medical device, food and dietary supplement matters in the United States, Europe and Asia. He is ranked internationally among the top authorities on FDA-related enforcement and regulatory issues, and has led audits and investigations involving off-label promotion, pharmacovigilance, PDMA, GMP, and fraud and abuse issues, as well as DEA and FTC matters. Scott is also a mediator for life sciences controversies.
Scott works closely with the U.S. FDA and other relevant U.S. government agencies on a regular basis, as well as with other global regulators. Scott was an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Graduate School, and taught with the top FDA official in charge of dietary supplements and medical foods. His experience includes:
- Acted as an expert on an EU Commission panel
- Advised the Shanghai Institute for Food and Drug Safety in China on the formulation of new drug and device laws
- Taught GMP training in China
- Asked by Senator Hatch to lead the industry negotiation and drafting of the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 ("DSHEA")
- Hired by the FDA as an advisor on the FDA dietary supplement website
- Testified before Congress on the law and continues to be a leader in the merging areas of dietary supplements, medical foods and related food categories in the U.S., EU and Asia
Scott has published many articles and books in the pharmaceutical, enforcement and dietary supplement and functional foods fields. He is an honors graduate of the University of Michigan Law School.
