(WASHINGTON, D.C.) — The Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA) recently appointed Anne Marie Murphy to serve as Deputy General Counsel to support and advise CHPA staff and members on a range of key food and drug law regulatory matters, help develop association policies, and collaborate with member company representatives on industry projects.

“Anne Marie brings deep knowledge of the consumer healthcare legal landscape to our team and we are thrilled to have her on board,” said David Spangler, CHPA’s senior vice president of policy and general counsel. “Anne Marie’s experience with a wide range of issues related to food and drug law will be a tremendous asset to CHPA and our member companies.”

Prior to joining CHPA, Ms. Murphy was a senior legal editor for Thomson Reuters Practical Law, where she built a collection of legal know-how resources for practitioners in the food and drug law and life sciences sectors, a new area of focus for the company.
Ms. Murphy practiced food and drug law for 15 years with the DC firm Hyman, Phelps and McNamara, P.C., where she was a shareholder from 2008 to 2015. Her practice focused primarily on drugs and devices, including product development, clinical trials, advertising and promotion, FDA and state law compliance, wholesale drug distribution, and supply chain security. She also counseled clients on consumer product safety issues, including recalls and child-resistant packaging rules.

She also previously held regulatory and compliance positions in the pharmaceutical industry, including regulatory affairs work for U.S. Bioscience and Cephalon, Inc., and clinical research quality assurance auditing for Wyeth-Ayerst Research.
