(WASHINGTON, D.C.) — The Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA) recently appointed Marina Karp as director of health policy, a newly created position responsible for helping to develop the association’s overall health policy priorities including policy research and outreach to the broader healthcare community. Karp will help lead CHPA’s efforts to educate and engage payers, providers, and other stakeholders to reinforce and promote the critical value that OTCs, dietary supplements, and consumer medical devices contribute to public health and wellness.

“We are thrilled to welcome Marina with her unique skills to the team,” says David Spangler, CHPA’s senior vice president of policy and general counsel. “Health policy issues of concern to consumers – and healthcare systems – including access to safe and affordable medicines, effective symptom relief and prevention, and the demand for self-care options are where consumer healthcare products provide tremendous value. This new position at CHPA will enable us to better quantify and communicate that value to the wider U.S. healthcare sector.”

Prior to joining CHPA in June, Karp served as director of research at the Keckley Group, a healthcare research and policy analysis firm, where she focused on strategic growth initiatives and sustainability of health systems. Karp was also previously associate director of research at the Navigant Center for Healthcare Research & Policy Analysis, where she conducted primary research and developed thought leadership related to critical themes and trends impacting healthcare providers. Karp’s previous policy briefs and white papers have explored how legislative and regulatory changes impact key aspects of the healthcare delivery system.

The Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA), founded in 1881, is the national trade association representing the leading manufacturers and marketers of consumer healthcare products, including over-the-counter (OTC) medicines, dietary supplements, and consumer medical devices. CHPA is committed to empowering self-care by ensuring that Americans have access to products they can count on to be reliable, affordable, and convenient, while also delivering new and better ways to get and stay healthy.
