(WASHINGTON, D.C.)  — The CHPA Educational Foundation’s fifth annual gala will be held virtually on November 18, 2020. The event will feature keynote speaker, Steve Jones, a music industry veteran and brand expert with his presentation “Brand Like a Rockstar.” The event will also honor PatientPoint as this year’s Community Partner of the Year Award recipient.

The annual gala is the foundation’s main fundraising event, which highlights its important work and achievements to educate consumers about safe use, storage, and disposal of over-the-counter (OTC) medicines, with flagship initiatives like the Acetaminophen Awareness Coalition’s Know Your Dose campaign and the Up and Away campaign, led by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and its PROTECT Initiative.

“Against the backdrop of COVID-19, the foundation’s work to promote medicine safety is more important than ever,” said Anita Brikman, Executive Director of the CHPA Educational Foundation. “Our success is thanks in large part to our collaboration with partners representing industry, government, and the patient and healthcare provider communities who share our vision of happier, healthier lives through responsible self-care. This year, we look forward to honoring the 2020 Community Partner of the Year award recipient, PatientPoint, for their efforts in promoting our Know Your Dose acetaminophen safety messages across their point-of-care network.”

In addition to a jazz band performance and an interactive wine tasting, this year’s gala will offer opportunities for small networking discussions on topics of interest in the consumer healthcare space. Topic moderators will include former Representative David Jolly (R-FL) discussing the political landscape after the election, and CHPA’s own Marcia Howard, Ph.D., Vice President, Regulatory & Scientific Affairs facilitating a conversation on diversity and inclusion. Attendees will also have an opportunity to chat live with our keynote speaker, Steve Jones.

“We are thrilled to be able to gather the industry together for our virtual event, which we have planned to be both engaging and interactive this year, despite the fact that we cannot be in person. It’s a great opportunity to convene and celebrate the great work of the foundation and our partners, while also providing networking opportunities for our attendees,” said Mary Leonard, Director of the CHPA Educational Foundation.

Over the last five years, the annual gala has grown significantly. Last year’s event drew more than 300 industry executives from 95 different companies and featured a new OTC Marketing Awards program. While the awards program was paused in 2020, it is expected to resume in 2021. This year’s virtual event is on track to reach 300 attendees as well.
