Who We Are

Each day, millions of consumers rely on over-the-counter (OTC) medicines and dietary supplements to help safely, effectively, and quickly treat a wide range of ailments such as cold and flu, fever, headache, and upset stomach.

But did you know:

  1. 8 in 10 parents have given the wrong dose of liquid medicine to their child by accident
  2. 60,000 kids go to the emergency room each year because they got into medicine that was left within reach
  3. 62% of adults have never sought information on how to properly dispose of OTC medicines

The Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA) Educational Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization that addresses these serious public health issues and empowers consumers to make smart self-care decisions by providing information and guidance on how to safely use, store, and dispose of OTC medicines and dietary supplements.

Mission - To be the trusted source of information on the responsible use of consumer healthcare products including over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements

Goal - Our goal is to ensure consumers use, store, and dispose of OTC medicines responsibly. We educate consumers to:

  • Read and follow the medicine label
  • Store medicines safely
  • Dispose of medicines safely
